March 1st, 2008 was the setting for Rancho Palos Verdes' Whale of a Day Festival. The US Coast Guard and the USCG Auxiliary presented displays of boats, equipment, helicopters and information booths at Point Vicente Lighthouse. Also on hand were members of the US Naval Sea Cadets and Navy Leaguers to help with crowd control. Over 4,300 visitors toured the lighthouse and exhibits despite the in climate weather conditions.

lighthouse and exhibits. Since the first "Whale day" open house back in 1992, Keeper Eric
